If I had posted this blog on time, I'd say, "Happy Halloween!" We really missed getting to see everyone's costumes, and are sure that all the little nephews were adorable. If you have pictures, we'd sure like to see them!
So, for Halloween, Elaina was a princess, and McKay was a pirate. We went trick or treating in a neighborhood where some of our friends live, but of course they weren't home because they were trick-or-treating themselves! Turns out that neighborhood hasn't had trick-or-treaters for four years, and many people weren't handing out candy at all. But the ones that were gave handfuls of candy to both our kids since they didn't think many more people would come (and because Elaina's shy little "trick-or-treat" is kind of hard to resist!) We had also carved pumpkins the day before Halloween. Elaina liked pulling out the seeds, and calls our finished pumpkins "mean pumpkins". See pictures below!

House Update
So the house is really starting to have a finished look to it. We still lack carpet, but we've got lights, counter-tops, tile floors, and appliances! Here's some photos:

Elaina and McKay

ELAINA
Elaina is such a funny little character. The more she talks, the more her enchanting nature shows through. While her daddy is at work, she likes to see pictures of him. One morning she asked for pictures of daddy, and I pulled up one on my computer. She smiled her crinkle-nose smile and said clear as a bell, "He's so sweet!" Then covered her face with her hands, as if the sweetness was just too much. So cute! I wish I could take credit for her adorableness, but it's all her. She also likes to ask to go see Grandma Jake and Grandma and Grandpa Brady whenever we get in the car, and especially if she sees an airplane. She also loves playing with her "A-Kay", although she's getting increasingly more bossy towards him. We're working on that. Her new favorite things are Christmas trees (which we see in the store, even though it's barely October), and castles. Not long ago, she asked to wear her princess costume I made her. She did this by saying, obviously, "princess costume?" I said sure, and put it on. Then she asked, "crown?" So I put on that. Then she said, "castle?" .....uh.......I don't have a castle! I wonder if I could have pulled one out and given it to her, whether she would have then asked, "Prince?" We'll never know. But now whenever she sees a castle on TV or in a book she calls it, "Elaina's castle." Also, the mall, the Mayor's mansion, and the state capitol building are all "Elaina's castle". She cracks me up. Here are some photos of Elaina as of late.
McKAY
McKay is still the most smiley thing you'll ever see. He is also the wiggliest. No more sitting still on mommy's lap! He's also enjoying the wonderful world of table foods, and beginning to wean himself off of the bottle. Gosh, he's growing up fast. He is now standing momentarily here and there, gaining balance, and he uses the furniture to walk all over the place. He's a pro at climbing stairs, and loves to be outside! He actually cries when we re-enter the apartment after being out. He watches his sister like a hawk and does what she does. He also laughs heartily at all her antics and lights up whenever she says, "A-Kay!" He's such a good little brother. Here are some recent pictures of baby McKay.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Blogging, Jacobsens!
The Jacobsen's : May 2012
Family picture taken by Carrie Mann
So here we are, embarking on a new quest to stay in touch with family and friends while living 1658 miles away...give or take. For those of you who have not heard much from us since leaving Utah, we are enjoying the South, especially the fried food! We're living in an apartment in Baton Rouge while building a house in a smaller town called Zachary. Population-wise it is about twice the size of Richfield, but it definitely has that small-town feel. We're really looking forward to living there, and enjoying a little more space. Our home is going to be in a cookie-cutter type neighborhood which isn't exactly ideal, but it'll be easy to sell, and we love the idea of living in a brand new place. Here is the progression of our home over the past few months:
DIRT....
PRE-FOUNDATION....
FOUNDATION....
WHOA......HOUSE!
FRAMING FROM INSIDE
VIEW OF OUR BACKYARD
A BIT OF STUCCO PREP ON ENTRANCE
MY BATHTUB!
BRICKING...
So that's our progress so far! We'll see what more is done on Sunday. They are sure putting this house up quickly! They didn't lay the foundation till after August 12! The house is due to be done by November 12, which means we might be done with closing in time for Thanksgiving in our first real house. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
